Prologue
At the end of the Galactic Civil War, with the destruction of the World Devastators and subsequent fall of the Empire, the galaxy entered a time of relative peace. But all was not well.
Several smaller factions, inspired by the Galactic Empire’s success and thinking they could do better, attempted to establish empires of their own. Many attempts were crushed immediately by much more powerful opponents, but many others succeeded in gaining a foothold, and began to spread. The galaxy had a new plague upon it: many warring factions, each trying to gain control, but accomplishing little more than the gradual destruction of the very places they were trying to conquer.
The more powerful factions, such as the New Republic and the old Rebel Alliance, were able to hold back the onslaught, and protect their citizens from tyranny. But requests for protection by weaker states began to stretch them thin, and their lines began to falter. The galaxy needed help.
This help came in the form of a young Count Keyes, a human man trained in the ways of the Force, who despised imperial rule. He discovered the old Droid Factories of Geonosis. He and several powerful friends banded together to bring them back online, and the Confederacy of Independent Systems was reborn, this time with a peaceful mission: to stamp out the many little empires and restore peace to the galaxy once more.
In his flagship, the CSS Remonstrator, he led CIS forces against any empire he found, crushing many with ridiculous ease. For a small fee, he would place a defensive force above any planet that wanted protection from the rogue factions.
With raw materials from Mustafar and several other mineral planets, the factories of Geonosis produced millions of battle droids a day, and hundreds of new ships. The CIS grew in power, with more and more systems joining the cause, soon becoming a force that everyone recognized and respected.
Except, apparently, for one surprisingly powerful force, which targeted Keyes’ home planet for a discreet yet decidedly hostile takeover.
The Yeerks had come to Earth…
